An assessment of cultural issues to determine the urgency of the Christian's obligation for treatment and the nature of biblical response needed. We will be diving into biblical truths in their cultural and historical context to further understand the nature of God and how to live out our faith in today's culture. Each week a group member will pick a topic (i.e.. Politics, Christophanies in the OT, Identity, etc.) to study and prepare for open, guided discussions at the next gathering. We are committed to creating a loving, safe, and vulnerable environment where it is OK to agree to disagree, with the outcome of becoming more Christlike and having a deeper love for each other. Starts with dinner and then moves to study and prayer after.
Discussion typically is guided by the text of the Sunday sermon.
Pastor Jon Westra usually leads the group in a discussion of a text that will be featured in an upcoming sermon. The group consists of retired persons though all are welcome.
Study the Heidelberg Catechism by reading Q and A and the Bible references and discussing.
Study and discussion on the book of Amos.
Anyone may start an Iron Group. These groups tend to allow a strong spiritual fire to build in you as you become closer to a few committed believers for a brief period of time. The groups are also for sort burst of time so you are not stuck. Just follow a few simple guidelines. 1.) Form a group of 3 with two people who know fairly well. 2.) Agree to meet for an hour once a week for 6 weeks. usually for coffee type setting. 3.) Eat together, pray for one another, study a book or the Bible of an inspirational book. 4.) New people join your group only if all agree. 5.) Every 8 weeks the member of the group can re-up or bow out.
Every 5th Sunday our congregational has a potluck. This is a wonderful time to become acquainted with more people. Everyone is encouraged to set near someone they would like to get to know better.
